Junior Development Section

Welcome to the St Albans Centurions junior section.  Together with our head coach and Rugby League development officer, Shane Rampling, The Cents are committed to bringing Rugby League to St Albans and the surrounding area.  Shane has developed a 3 way stratergy that we would like to share with you.

2.   Junior Centurions - Runs March to July

St Albans Centurions run 3 junior teams that play in the London League and the London Merit League.  These teams play as St Albans Juniors at U12, U14 and U16 level and are made up from the 'cluster clubs', above.  Their season runs from March to July.  Together with the Chiltern League, this gives a 9 month season of Rugby League.

3.   Rugby League in local schools

Shane is visiting local schools and introducing them to Rugby League training both during and after school.  Hopefully, when the pupils have had a sample of The Greatest Game, they will want to join one of the 'cluster clubs'.

1. The Chiltern Junior Rugby League  ( Cluster Clubs )

Runs October to February

The idea of cluster clubs comes from Australia.  The idea is that each area of a town has its own junior Rugby League club, which is centred around the local school, where rugby league training is already going on.  For example, St Albans has
New Greens Gladiators (centred on Townsend school), Cottonmill Crusaders (centred on Francis Bacon School), and Hatfield has The Hatfield Comets (centred on Onslow school). These teams don't have to worry about training, fixtures etc as it's all taken care of by your local development officer (Shane) at the school, and local rugby club (us.)  All the club has to do is get a couple of Mums and Dads on board to 'oversee' things, and thats it. St Albans Centurions have the above three teams, and are joined  by Hemel Hempstead Stags who have three clubs up and running, and Aylesbury and Northampton have also joined in to provide a league playing from October to February.  All of our teams games will be played at our home ground - St Albans Centurions  at Colney Heath.  At the end of February, the players 'join forces' and move on to the next phase, see 2 below.
