Maxwise Sign On To Sponsor Cents                                                                          17.02.10
St Albans Centurions are very pleased to announce that multi national company Maxwise have become an official sponsor of the club.  Maxwise, who specialise in supplying video and computer game peripherals to all the major brands, like Wii, Playstation, XBox, PSP and DSLite have a head office in China, as well as bases all over Europe and the USA.  Cents Chairman Nick Roberts said "For such a prestigious company to become involved with Rugby League, and the Centurions in particular  must mean we are doing something right.  We are pleased and proud to welcome them on board."  The sponsorship is going to be channelled into supporting the junior set up at the club.
St Albans Centurions are very proud to see that one of their own has joined the army to serve Queen and Country. Iain Langley is well known to everyone at Cents, not only for being a regular in the Centurions junior teams for several years, but also for helping coach Shane Rampling train the younger club members. In 2009 he joined the Royal Anglian Regiment and started his training at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.

Coach Rampling said "Iain is a great young man, one of the best, and he loves his Rugby League. All he ever wanted to do was join the army, and now he has achieved that goal. I'm sure Iain will put as much effort into being a soldier as he put into his rugby, so that means they have got a great recruit."

Iain has signed up for the Cents again this year, and has promised that when he is on leave, he'll be back down at St Albans wanting a game.

Everyone at the club wished Iain all the very best in his training.
` Rugby Season ` Calendar Now Been Added                                                           08.03.10

On the front page of this website you will see that a new `Rugby Season Calendar` has been added.  If you click on it, you will be taken to a calendar that shows all the games, social functions, days out, committee meetings etc that are taking place between March and September - so now there is no excuse for players and club members to be able to say `Oh, I didn't know about that`.
Junior Membership Day                                                                                                  07.03.10

Saturday 13th March 2010
O
n this day, all four of our junior teams - Under 12's, U13's, U14's and U 16's - are all playing 'at home'. As we have this opportunity to have everyone together on one day, in one place, we have decided to make it Junior Membership Day, when all junior players, committee members and coaches pay their annual membership fees of £30. (Any parent who wants to become a member of the club can also join for the same amount, and get the club shirt). Upon payment, cheques and cash both accepted with a smile, the boys will be issued with their club polo shirts and training tops. If anyone cannot make Saturday, our membership secretary, Maria Langley, is always down at the clubhouse on training nights - you can't miss her, she's the one with the glazed expression wandering around the club with lots of forms and paperwork.
Tea and coffee will be available on Saturday, the coaches will also be there to answer any questions, and Robbie Marr from the RFL will be holding a volunteers workshop at 10.30am for about 20 minutes, extolling the virtues of helping out with your sons team.
Remember - the membership fee covers ground rental, playing strip/club shirt/training top, insurance cover, food when necessary and registration fees - not a bad return for £30.

We hope all our juniors can make it down to the clubhouse on Saturday.

Please note - due to Verulam rugby club holding their Presidents Lunch on Saturday March 27th, the clubhouse will not be available. Therefore on that day, all 'home' games will be played at Onslow St Audreys School, Hatfield. If you don't know where it is, please speak to Shane for directions.
U16's & U14's Make Great Start To Their Season                                                     07.03.10

London Junior Rugby League
Eastern Rhinos U14's 22 -v- 32 St Albans Centurions U14's
Eastern Rhinos U16's 8 -v- 34 St Albans Centurions U16's

St Albans Centurions Junior teams travelled to Ipswich on Saturday to take on the Eastern Rhinos juniors, in the first weekend of their new season - and came away with impressive wins in both games.

The U.14s started really well with quick fire tries from Aaron Exley, Josh Lawrence and Callum Porter. The Ipswich side, which were much bigger than our boys were reeling with the speed and vigour of the Cents attack. There was great attacking play from Ethan Butler, Czesary Bialows and Jack Mason which led to 2 further tries. At half time the score was 22 - 8 to Cents, but Ipswich came right back with 2 quick tries at the start of the second half. This gave the Cents the added impetus they needed to get back into the action and further tries from Aaron, Josh and Callum regained control of the match. Three further conversions from Charrack gave the final score of 32 - 22 to the St Albans team. Man of the match went to Josh Lawrence, which was well deserved and the coach says that big things are expected of him this year.

U16's - A quick Ipswich try within minutes of the kick off was the wake up call the U16's needed.  The Cents buckled down and began to play some classy rugby.  Some great hands and runs saw them answer the Rhinos try by scoring in the corner.  After that, the Cents settled down and for most of the game dominated the bigger Ipswich pack both in the tackle and the ruck area.  Some strong tackling from Adam Chandler and Luke Fiacca forced the Ipswich boys back time and time again, and through this platform Cents  extended their lead with a hat-trick of tries from on form Chandler and a try a piece for Gaskill, Kugra, Rich and Grieg.  Excellent kicking from Chandler also helped to extend the lead. A well deserved man of the match performance from Sherwood – Pierce helped to cap a very strong Cents performance.
Well done to both teams
Cents Hold AGM                                                                                                               04.03.10

St Albans Centurions RLFC held their Annual General Meeting at Cotlandswick at 7.30pm on Wednesday 17th March 2010. The meeting started with the minutes of the 2009 AGM being read and accepted.
There then followed the chairmans report and the treasures report. Suffice to say that the club did well in 2009 and we go into 2010 in the black, with high expectations both on and off the field.
Director of Rugby Shane Rampling then gave his report which covered the seniors, development and junior set up. Once again, a very up beat and forward looking report. The 2009 committee then stood down and elections were held for the 2010 committee. The following were elected -
Chairman - Gary Tetlow
Club Treasurer - Toni Kenworthy
Club Secretary - Tony Bottomley
Director of Rugby - Shane Rampling
Membership Secretary - Maria Langley.
The new chairman then stated he wished to change the club constitution to introduce new positions within the club and to that end he has to call an extra-ordinary general meeting. Notification of which will be announced shortly. An interim meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 17th March for all new positions to be discussed. There then followed 'any other questions' and the meeting ended at 9.30pm.

Cents Primary School Tag Comp A Runaway Success                                         25.02.10

St Albans Centurions held their third annual 'St Albans Area Primary School Rugby League Tag Competition' today, and what a turn out. Almost 100 children in twelve teams from St Albans and the surrounding area took part. The competition was divided into two leagues, and each game lasted for 10 minutes. At the end of the games, the top two teams from each league played each other in the semi finals, with the two winners going through to the finals. This years finals were contested by Countess Anne C of E School from Hatfield, and Harwood Hill School from Welwyn Garden City. The solid gold (well, that's what we told the children) trophy was won by Countess Anne School, Hatfield. Local Rugby League development officer Shane Rampling, who organised the competition said "It was a great day of rugby. Two years ago we had 4 teams, last year we had eight, and this year we had twelve competing. Tag rugby means boys and girls can all play on an equal footing, and today we saw some great moves by both boys and girls. I'd like to thank the RFL for lending us a couple of referees and Cents new signing, Adam Kambouris for giving up his time to help out. This has been a really enjoyable and successful day."
