About
A Brief History of the Club:- St Albans Centurions first took to the field on 1st September 1996, when a scratch side - recruited through local press advertising - narrowly lost to a Hemel Hempstead development team. In the 10 years since, the Centurions have developed into a popular and successful Club.
In 1997, we played our first league games, replacing Ashford in the London League Division 2. That same year, we became the first Southern team to compete in the Blackpool 9s and established our first contacts with local schools. In 1998, we joined the Summer Rugby League Conference, won the London Bowl and came Runners-up in the Southern Division of the League. Our Under 13s competed in the Festival of Rugby League and in the London Junior competition: and players at all levels were called into representative squads. In the 1999 season, we recruited over 50 players for the first time allowing us to operate a second team. Continued good work in local schools was reflected when a member of our junior programme became the first to progress into our Open Age team: many have followed. In 2000, we joined the Eastern Conference, finishing a creditable third. - as did our second team in the London League Merit Table, to go alongside their victory in the London Knockout Trophy. From 2003 to 2006 the first team played in the LHF Healthplan National League 3, whilst the second team has competed in the TotalRL.com Conference. In 2007 we joined the RLC Southern Premiership. The Club has also taken part in the Powergen Challenge Cup and the Northern Rail Cup. |
