Hammersmith Hill Hoists 16 -V- 56 St Albans Centurions

Saturday the Cents travelled to West London to play the Hoist who are the only team to beat the Cents this season. Hammersmith put pressure on the Cents from the kick off. This did not help by the Cents giving away 5 penalties in 6 minutes. But it was the Cents who opened the scoring from a penalty for interference at play the ball the Cents finally got away from their half due to strong running from the forwards. On the 5th tackle a gap
appeared in the Hoist defence and scrum half Adam Kal dashed through and off loaded to Shane Rampling who through out a wide pass for centre Russ Kelloway to score. David Kramer playing his first game of the season converted. From the kick off the Cents were back on the attack through Matt O'Rourke who went through the Hoist defence and with Adam Kambouris in support made 40 metres. Quick play the ball Adam Kal kicked a high ball to the corner which the defence allowed to bounce and winger Gareth Walters collected and scored in the corner. Hammersmith caught the Cents defence out with a 40 - 20 kick and from the scrum broke the Cents defence and stand off Kier Jaegar danced over this was converted by Wayde Kelly. Then the Cents started to put together their best of rugby of the season when they ran in 5 tries in a 12 minute spell. First Adam Kambouris followed by substitutes Dan Hensby, Ollie Fountain David Coyle all crossing the line with their first touch of the ball this was round off with a try from David Kramer who converted 2 of the tries.
All these tries were brought about by strong running from forwards Roy Dube, Mick Hollister and Adam Kambouris who made holes in the Hoist defence. This gave the Cents a 34 - 6 half time lead.
From the start of the second half Hammersmith came out just as they did in the first half and after 5 minutes broke the Cents defence when centre Ryan Snelgar went over and Wayde Kelly converted. Then the Cents got back to their game plan and ran in 2 tries in 4 minutes. Winger Rudie van der Merwe chased a kick from Adam Kal and snatched the
ball of the Hammersmith winger Pat Regan and ran round to score. This was converted. From the kick off Hammersmith kicked the ball out on the full. Giving a penalty to the Cents on the halfway. From the tap 3 good drives by the Cents forwards making 30 metres. Then on the 4th a grubber from Adam Kal was missed by the Hoist defence and stand off Matt O' Rourke dived on a loose ball to score. But the next 10 minutes belonged to the Hoist who pressured the Cents line and after keeping them out for 2 sets of 6 the Cents defence broke and Wayde Kelly went over to score. From the kick off Hammersmith allowed the ball to bounce over their heads and it went dead, From the drop out the Cents had 4 drives through their forwards and on the 5th Shane Rampling from acting half dived over and David Kramer converted. This brought up the 50 points mark. On the final whistle full back David Kramer ran through a tied Hammersmith defence to score. This gave the Cents a 56 -16 victory.

Next Saturday away to South London Storm.

Was having a look at the league table and just realised something - with three weeks to go, Cents have already made the play offs. Whilst final positions are yet to be decided, numericaly speaking, Cents can only finish in the top four ..... although finishing in top spot would be nice.
Well done the Cents.

Great result against the second place team. That top spot is looking good, and the benefits it brings at playoff time. Good luck next weekend against South London.
Webmaster - the link from Gallery to this weeks photos does not work, says Page Not Found. But link does work from the results page.

We could be saints though thinking about it hahaha but cents is better!!! good stuff petty

We're the CENTS not the saints ;)

- copy and paste failure!

Good work lads though.

Well done boys, a great win against the second place team. This team is really jelling now, you can see it in the way the boys play, supporting each other and always backing each other up. David Kramer, playing his first game for us since his injury was well impressive. If we had him in the squad from the start of the season, we would still be top of the league, but I'm sure with a much higher points difference. (+310 at the moment, next nearest has +186)
Just looking at the table on the RLC website, and we still have to win 2 out of our last three games to be sure of becoming League Champions (Minor Premiers to our Aussie cousins). If the format stays the same as last year, by finishing in top spot, we play the fourth placed team 'at home' in the semis, and if we win, then the winners of 2nd v 3rd, again at our place, in the Southern Premiership Grand Final. Good luck next week against South London.

A very good result. Well done.
