Centurions tighten grip on league
South London Storm 6 -V- 60 St Albans Centurions
The kick off was put back to 3pm due to heavy traffic on the M25 so the Cents did not get their normal warm up. This showed in the first 10 minutes when the Storm peppered the Cents line but some defiant defending kept them out. Then on the 10th minute from a tap on the Cents 20 metre line the forwards made excellent metres with 3 drives. Then quick hands down the line put centre Aaron Brown through the gap and David Kramer converted to get the scoreboard moving. The game became stale with both teams making basic errors. Then on the 30th minute the Cents were awarded a penalty for offside and from the tap Joe Shaw broke the Storms defence and his fellow forward Adam Kambouris was on his shoulder and he finished the move with a try. Straight from the kick off centre Rudie van der Merwe made 25 metres and a quick play the ball David Kramer broke the defence to race over to score. On the half time whistle the Storm finally broke the Cents defence and scored a try which was converted. 14 – 6 to Cents at half time.
The second half was a brand new game with the Cents running in 8 tries in a 25 minute spell. David Coyle opened the scoring with an excellent run through the Storm defence. Then from the kick off Keir Bell, Adam Kambouris and David Coyle put the Cents into the Storms 20 metres and from the play the ball Adam Kal sent a wide pass out wide for winger Alan Petty to score in the corner. Again from the kick off Rudie van der Merwe broke the Storm defence with another excellent run and scrum half Adam Kal was in support to take the pass and raced over for a try. Straight back from the kick off it was Rudie van der Merwe who raced through a tied Storm defence and a quick play the ball to loose forward Adam Kambouris who put in a grubber kick through the Storm defence and followed up to score. The Storm was making more mistakes and the Cents centre Nick Woolley raced through from his own 40 metre line to score. Then a try came from a basic error when a Storm player was playing the ball and they had no acting half and hooker Shane Rampling dived on the loose ball. From the play the ball Joe Shaw ran onto a flat pass to score. The final score of the game came from Adam Kal who just went through a much tied Storm defence. The Cents has 3 kickers with David Kramer converting 5 tries and Adam Kambouris and Mike Hollister converting 1 each. This gave the Cents 60 points to 6 victory.
Just wondering - Is Saturdays game against the Skolars still on? I only ask because Skolars last (home) game was called off, so just wondering if they were still travelling to us? Nothing on the Skolars website or the RLC site either.
A slow start that got better and better. Second half just brilliant. Now just one point needed from the last two games to become League Champions - well done fellas.
