Rampling 'Coach of the Year, Cents Runners Up 'Team of the Year' 10.07.08
Last night the prestigious St Albans City & District Sports Awards were held, and St Albans Centurions came first and second in the top two award catergories. Leisure Connection, St. Albans Arts, Sport and Health Development Team in partnership with St. Albans City & District Council hosted the annual St. Albans District Sports Awards to recognise the great work going on within sport in St. Albans over the year, which is designed to acknowledge the exceptional sporting performance of individual athletes, teams, and the outstanding contribution of 'behind the scenes' sports people who have given something to sport in the last 12 months. The awards offered a fantastic opportunity for people to be recognised for all the hard work they have put into sport in the district
First, Aussie coach and RFL development officer Shane Rampling was voted 'Coach of the Year' for his prowess in guiding The Cents to 'the treble' in 2007. Under his coaching, Cents won the Southern Premiership League Championship, the Southern Premiership Grand Final, and the RLC National Grand Final.
The St Albans Centurions team were then voted runners up in the ' Team of the Year ' catergory for their achievements last year. Long time club player Oli Fountain was there to accept the award on behalf of the club. A big well done to everyone concerned with the club for this outstanding achievement.
