Cents On BBC Radio 20.03.08
St Albans Centurions featured on BBC Radio Londons 'London Sports Show' on Thursday evening. The shows Rugby League segment usually covers Harlequins RL and London Skolars in their half hour programme but they also occasionaly do pieces on local amateur clubs, and it was our turn on Thursday. Speaking to the shows presenter, Cents press officer Mike Walling did a sterling job in telling the audience about our set up, senior and junior teams and our great season of last year. He even managed to get in that the player that was interviewed before our segment, Dene Miller from London Skolars, came up through the Centurions ranks. Mike also got in about our registration day and invited anyone who has an interest in Rugby League to turn up and meet us. Well done Mike, St Albans Centurions certainly came over as a successful and positive Rugby League club.

Recalling his days at the Cents, winger Dan says "I remember all those crazy Aussies and Kiwis and the good team ethos we had. The committee and the management were loyal and always there for us. The games were tough - the toughest I remember was the playoffs against Warrington in National League Three, it was a hard fought game and we had a lot of injuries but the lads played hard and well, but unfortunately we lost." The good news is that Dans tour of duty is almost over, and he will be returning home in April. Dan sends his regards to all those who remember him. Good luck and best wished to Dan and his colleagues, we hope you all return home safe and sound.
St Albans Centurions were proud to find out that one of our 'old boys' was serving Queen and Country out there in Afghanistan. Daniel Hensby, 25, who played for us in our National League Three days is a member of the Royal Marine Commandos, and although now based in Taunton, Somerset he had been out 'at the sharp end' in Afghanistan for the last six and a half months.
Daniel, who joined the Marines in 2000, hails from London, and started playing his Rugby League at Essex Eels but has has also played for West Indies RL, Royal Marines RL and Royal Navy RL. St Albans Centurions was the last team he played for before his Royal Marine commitments took over, although he does admit to having a few training sessions with Somerset Vikings RLFC whilst based at Taunton.
