Junior Tag Team Festival Great Success 05.06.08

St Albans Centurions Junior Tag Team Tournament took place at Colney Heath on Thursday when local schools battled it out for the trophy. Four other schools that were due to take part in the tournament dropped out during the week, and this led to a lot of re-jigging by the organisers, but a new set of matches were draughted and the day went off remarkably well, with glorious sunshine and 40+ schoolchildren who really enjoyed themselves.
The schools taking part were Colney Heath Juniors, Oakview JMI from Hatfield, Essendon Church of England school and the tournament winners, Countess Anne Church of England school from Hatfield. Each school had a ten player squad and they played each other twice. Cold drinks and snacks were provided by The Cents. The games were so close that it wasn't until the last round that the 2 finalists were revealed - Countess Anne -v- Colney Heath. The game was played at flat out speed with the teams from Essendon and Oakview staying to cheer on their friends. At the end, Countess Anne won the game by six tries to three. Big thanks must go to Shane Rampling (Cents coach and RL development officer) and Tony Bottomley (Cents President) for organising the event, members of the St Albans committee for turning up and helping out, and finally our two referees, Mt Tetlow and Mr Edwards who's entheusiasm was contagious. If you haven't already realised, a great day out was had by all.
