Powergen Challenge Cup
Widnes St Maries 40-12 St Albans Centurions
It was always going to be a tough draw for the first match of the season, away to Widnes St Maries who were a fair way through their season. Widnes St Maries dominated the start of the match with 5 tries and 2 goals scored in the first 28 minutes and by half-time the Cents trailed 24-0.
The Cents did not let their heads go down and fought back in the second half with 2 tries from Richard Louw and Huy Le with Jack Malin and Mike Roby kicking a goal each ending with a respectable 16-12 in the second half. Unfortunately a nasty clash in the 70th minute bought Jack Malin down and he had to be taken to hospital for treatment on a head wound.
The match finished 40-12 against a side who were always going to be tough opposition. With the Cents displaying great commitment in the second half they show promise for the coming season.

Scotland coach Steve McCormack has named a 26 man squad for the World Cup qualifier against Wales in Bridgend on 29 October.
